Mix 150 grams of melted butter with 1 cup of raw sugar.
Then mix in ½ teaspoon of cinnamon and 2 eggs.
Add 1 or 2 chopped apples, a handful of chopped dates, 3 tablespoons of chunky fig jam or very ripe fresh figs, and 2 teaspoons of poppy seeds.
Mix in 2 cups of plain flour, 1½ teaspoons baking powder and half a cup of milk.
Pour the lot into a greased 25cm cake tin and sprinkle just a few almonds over the top.
Bake in a moderate oven until golden brown.
